 Calculate the membership values for the elements of x

 params  - x co-ordinates of the characteristic points of the fuzzy set
 paramsy - y co-ordinates of the characteristic points of the fuzzy set
 type    - type of the shape of the fuzzy set

 y - row vector containing the membership values
